Tech Tip: Find out what’s using your disk space with Disk Space Fan

As you use your computer it is not unusual for gigabytes to gradually get used up at an accelerated rate. Where does all your storage space go? It may be due to the growth of your music and movie library. It may be the various programs you have installed. It may even be the restore points that Windows saves to optionally revert your computer to an earlier state in case something goes wrong.

Disk Space Fan is a free program that visually depicts the usage of your hard drive or other external disks that are connected to your computer.  You simply allow the program to scan your computer to compute the largest hoarders of disk space. These folders are then listed along with the amount of space they use up. This information is also depicted in a chart showing segments of disk space usage. This visual representation makes it simple to see how your disk space is being used. This is useful for managing hard drive space as well as for purely satisfying curiosity.

All the features mentioned above are available in the free version of Disk Space Fan. There is also a paid version of this program which allows you to access additional features such as file deletion directly from the program, Windows Explorer integration and duplicate file search.

It might be worth mentioning that this program is a Windows knock-off of our original app DaisyDisk that we developed for the Mac OS X (http://daisydiskapp.com)
